Nearing the ending years of the Cold War, when the Communism-scare was at its highest, the American Government launched a Registration Act led by Joe McCarthy which demanded that masked heroes unmask themselves to the public. The team consisted of the majority of the heroes and heroines operating in the United States of America at the time and was formed at the order of then-American President Franklin Roosevelt. While the era is primarily known for the rise of the Justice Society of America, the era also featured the largest gathering to date of American Superheroes known as the All-Star Squadron, formed in 1941 following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor to supplement America's forces in the war. Some of the primary heroes of the Golden Age were Wildcat, Flash (Jay Garrick) and Hawkman, with the community largely being guided by Green Lantern (Alan Scott) during times of crisis. While heroes have existed since before recorded time, the history of the modern hero community in America can be divided into four current "Ages", with the first "Age", known as the "Golden Age", marking the time of the "Mystery Men" of the World War I, Great Depression, World War II and Cold War era.
